Park Information
Call (530) 595-4444

Lassen Volcanic National Park is open all year, however, access is difficult in winter and spring because of the heavy snowfall. The park road usually opens for through traffic in early June and closes in late October due to snow.   The months of August and September offer the best time for hiking and car touring the park with January, February and March the best months for cross country skiing and snowshoeing, although snow covers the higher elevations into July. During heavy snow years, snow may remain in areas throughout the park until August. Campgrounds, trails, and roads may open late during years of heavy snowfall.
